Are you thinking about your bouquets & floral arrangements for your destination wedding?  Consider your location, time of year and temperature and with a little research or advice from a great wedding florist you’ll have this figured out in no time!

Tulip Wedding Invitation - Designs by Lenila

Whether you’re planning a wedding during the summer or in a tropical location where the temperatures will be high, it’s a pretty good thought to consider what flowers will stand up to the climate that you will be in. It would be awful to spend any  money on  bouquets and arrangements that are gorgeous when you first get them, only to find that they’ve wilted and turned brown before you even get to walk down the aisle!

TIP:  Just because a flower may look wonderful and gorgeous and fresh at the florist’s air-conditioned location does not mean it will remain that way under the hot sun in an outdoor ceremony.

Here are a few ideas for flowers that will withstand such inclement conditions:

Tropical Flowers

Hibiscus Wedding Invitation - Designs by Lenila

It is safe to assume that since these plants can withstand the intense heat in the wild, they will also be able to do so when cut and used for a bouquet or arrangement.   You’ll probably find that these flowers are a bit more expensive than other flowers, but they are gorgeous and can last for days after your wedding.
Some types of tropical flowers:

Anthuriums, Birds of paradise, Hibiscus Flowers, Plumerias, Orchids & Heliconias

Designs by Lenila offers a variety of wedding invitations that feature these gorgeous tropical flowers.  Click on the links above to see our designs!

Calla Lily Invitation - Designs by Lenila

Lilies are another beautiful type of flower which is capable of withstanding sweltering temperatures. Calla lilies and mini calla lilies are the most common types used, and will not fade or wilt throughout the day.

Some types of lilies:

Stargazer Lily- Stargazer lilies are absolutely beautiful, traditional lilies. They are available in white, pink, salmon, and crimson. They have a wonderful, sweet fragrance. White stargazer lilies are said to symbolize purity, and pink stargazer lilies are said to symbolize prosperity.

Calla lily- Calla lilies symbolize beauty. Traditional white lilies are common in bridal bouquets, though red calla lilies are also quite stunning.

Summer Wild Flowers

Jungle Garden Invitation - Designs by Lenila

A less expensive and fun option for hot weather wedding flowers are wild flowers which will grow and thrive naturally in the summer. Amount these types are sunflowers and daisies. While not as formal or elegant as some of the other choices, they are a great choice for those on a smaller budget and who want an intimate and entertaining gathering with friends and family.

Hope that we gave you some useful tips for your wedding!  Happy wedding planning and have a wonderful weekend!!!

This week we have a guest blogger, one of Designs by Lenila’s brides Tina!

Clematis Scroll Invitations - Designs by Lenila

“Hello everyone and of course The Amazing Lenila! First, I would like to comment on Designs by Lenila website. If you have already visited the site then consider yourself fortunate to have entered a true PARADISE of invitations, gifts, etc. If you have not yet visited then I strongly suggest you take a few moments to view the entire site and take in the BEAUTIFUL, TIMELESS and FABULOUS invitations. I ordered my wedding invitations from Designs by Lenila and to say my husband and I were pleased and satisfied is an under statement. Our invitations were absolutely gorgeous. The invitation itself with its envelopes, packaging, and the font were amazing. You could tell there was so much love put into the invitations and not only did Lenila gain a lifetime consumer but she gained a friend.

Second, I would like to welcome all the new brides and brides like me to Designs by Lenila and I hope you experience the true graciousness that I experienced. My husband and I went to two islands in Hawaii for our honeymoon: Maui and Kauai. Maui was the place to be for action! It had sort of a tourist feel accompanied with couples who enjoy adventure on their honeymoon. My husband and I are 50/50 on vacations. We like to participate in all the activities there are to offer but we also like to spend the rest of our time relaxing on our trip which is exactly what we did in Hawaii. We went para-sailing, jet skiing, zip lining, snorkeling and lots of swimming in the crystal blue ocean….Literally crystal blue, you could see to the bottom. Our second half of the honeymoon was spent on the island of Kauai which was a more low key, relaxing type of atmosphere accompanied with Hawaii’s beautiful scenery. We went swimming at a beach called Poipu Beach which was truly breath taking you would have to see it to believe it. There are many places to go on one’s honeymoon but if you are truly un decided that may I kindly suggest Hawaii as an option. Please keep in mind that Hawaii is expensive and you will most definitely spend some cash but well worth it. I mean honestly when will you ever get a chance to go to paradise in your lifetime…..The time is now!!!! Good Luck to all of you and have a Blessed and Fruitful Marriage………
Congratulations again Tina & Thomas!  Wishing you both a lifetime of friendship, love & happiness!

“My beloved is the sun
And I am the earth that thrives only in her warmth.
My beloved is the rain
And I am the grass that thirsts for her quenching kiss.
My beloved is the wind
And I am the wings that soar when she fills me with her gentle strength.
My beloved is the rock
Upon which rests the happiness of all my days.

Designs by Lenila – Your Invitation to Paradise

It’s so great to hear from our brides especially after their wedding.  Our clients Mack & Terry Reeves were married on March 18th, 2006 and are celebrating their 5th Year Wedding Anniversary!!!

Mack & Terry Reeves – Celebrating 5 years of marriage!

“I love your site.  This Friday marks our 5 year wedding anniversary.  Thanks for making our day a special one.  Our friends still talk about how casual, but tasteful our wedding was instead of getting all dressed up.

We had a tropical theme attire for all of our guests.  It was apparent from the moment our guests received their beautiful invitations that our wedding was going to be a beautiful occasion.  As I mentioned, everyone felt so relaxed in their casual clothes.

Guests were treated to an outdoor wedding on a hotel balcony patio, then we moved inside for a beautiful reception.  You never know about the weather in Florida.  It was a great day full of family and friends, and the beginning of special memories.  We went to Marco Island, Florida for our honeymoon.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!”  ~ Thanks! Terry

Terry, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us!  We here at Designs by Lenila wish you & Mack a Happy 5th Year Wedding Anniversary!!!

Are you considering a destination wedding?  Here are some helpful tips & tricks for our brides to be!

1) Time of Year: Consider your wedding date and time of year that you’re planning on tying the knot. Did you know that November – April could be the best dates for you to have your wedding?  Reasons?

1 –  May through October are the most popular dates to get married
2 – Off-season typically means lower airfare
3 – Less crowds at the resorts and on the roads also equate to lower hotel room rates & rental rates
4 – Wedding vendors still need your business so that can also mean lower prices as well

A little research on your end can go a long way!  Do your research, price shop & compare online first before you shop in person.  An informed bride is a smart bride 😉

2)  Save the Dates:
Typically a destination wedding means your guest list may be fairly small, but even if it is, make sure that you give your guests plenty of advanced notice.  They too will need to plan for this (time off, tickets, etc).  So send out those Save the Dates!  The earlier the better!  Check out our Save the Date designs.  Here you will find unique &  original destination wedding invitations for your wedding day.

3) Invitations:
Your wedding invitations can tell a lot about your wedding and you and your soon to be spouse!  We’ve got great destination wedding invitations that are wispy and dreamy and whether you just love the ocean, flowers (plumerias are my favorite) or anything seaside, come and check us out! Consider using our envelopment wedding invites…  It’s new and has yet to be featured on our website, but just give us a call and ask us for pricing!

4)  Wedding Website:
Consider starting up a wedding website and give your guests suggestions for the trip.

5)  Flights: If you need to fly to your destination, look up group rates that you & your entire party can be a part of.  You may even   get a free First Class upgrade if enough people go!  Hawaiian Airlines offers a Wedding Wings plan that allow your guests to get the group rate.

6) Hotel: Call the hotel to see if you can negotiate a room rate for you & your guests.  Often, your hotel of choice will upgrade the bride & groom’s suite, or even give you a free room.  Make sure that you select more than 1 hotel to accommodate varying budgets.

That’s it for now girls!  Hope you’re having a great time planning your wedding!
